SLCC Coursework

This is the fifth course that I have taken at SLCC. I started taking courses through SLCC when I started teaching science at Kanab High School in Kanab, Utah. I have a Master's degree in chemistry and that allowed me to teach by enrolling in the Alternate Routes to Licensure (ARL) program through the Utah State Office of Education (USOE). The ARL program allows professionals to teach at the secondary education level by taking the appropriate pedigogy classes while teaching in the state of Utah. The first classes I took were in the Summer of 2009 at SLCC. I took a one credit class called Transition to Teaching, and three pedigogy classes: . These classes helped to prepare me for the full-time teaching that I started in August 2009. I teach Chemistry (high school juniors and seniors), Earth Systems (9th graders) and Investigative Sciences (special needs students).

Meteoerology 1010

My current class at SLCC is Meteorolgy 1010. I will post my first writing assignment entitled Water Issues. This essay assignment highlights many of my course goals for this class. It has the following elements: analysis, writing, world issues, civic duty and I analyzed five short videos having to do with world water issues and then responded to two classmate posts from their Water Issues Essays. Please see the PDF file (at the bottom of this page) to read my essay and responses.

Other Recent Coursework

I have taken college courses from other colleges since enrolling into the USOE - ARL program. I took three courses from the University of Phoenix. With the completion of these courses I obtained my level 1 teaching license from the Utah State Office of Education in May 2011. After completion of my teaching license, I still needed to complete courses to finish up the endorseements to teach Earth Systems. In the summer of 2011, I took two classes toward the completion of those requirements. I took Astronomy through BYU and Ecology through SUU. My last class to complete the endorsement requirement is this SLCC Meteorology 1010 class.
